Rob Velthuis has a 40 year career helping broadacre farmers in Australia. He has a degree in Agricultural Science and has extensive agronomy experience, in particular crop protection and soil fertility inputs, which form a large percentage of variable costs of a broadacre farm. He has a degree in Commerce (Economics) and extensive experience in business management through his involvement as regional manager for DuPont and Incitec Pivot as well as general management experience with the Novozymes/GRDC joint venture company for 10 years. In addition, Rob has a Master of Agribusiness degree and finely tuned skills in the development of strategic and business plans.
Rob also provided agronomy support to a group of Birchip farmers in 1992 and was instrumental in forming the Birchip Cropping Group; this group has a mission ‘to improve the prosperity of Australian broadacre farmers through science-based research and extension’ and now has over 20 staff and 400 members.
Rob is firmly committed to science-based farm decision making and has a unique perspective due to his extensive science and business background.
