What is covered

This course targets farmers who wish to profitably implement intensive grazing systems on their property.  They may have undertaken a Prograze or More Beef from Pastures course and wish to implement the principles.  The aim is to assist farmers to evaluate the profitability of proposed or possible enterprises, determine cost of production then design and implement a grazing system which addresses profitability, risk management and grazing management and efficiency issues.

On completion of this course participants will have:

  • Calculated projected enterprise gross margins for grazing enterprises considered

  • Calculated cost of production for wool, beef and lamb enterprises

  • Identified key risks including drought risk, associated with proposed system, and prepared strategies for dealing with them

  • Calculated monthly feed supply and animal demand and examined alternatives for achieving a profitable match between the two

  • Developed a grazing management strategy

  • Determined critical control points and how they will be measured and managed

  • Determined the most profitable stocking rate taking account of seasonal variation
